In 2004, a new subspecies of Tiger Beetle was discovered in my state: Cicindela nevadica makosika. That’s the Indian River area of of the Badlands, roughly a hundred miles east of here, where the beetle makes his home and plies his trade. You can’t tell from this photo, but he still has that “new beetle smell”.
Like all Tiger Beetles, this guy hunts down and kills things for a living, generally by tearing his opponent limb from limb. John Lennon this beetle ain’t.
Tiger Beetles flat out boogie. They can run 5 miles an hour, which, when adjusted for size, makes them the fastest land animals on the planet.
As with most inhabitants of this state, he is a Republican.
