The complexities of Global Warming are vast

For example, since 1998 there has been no increase in the global average temperature, and, in fact, even a slight decrease. The reason for this is global warming itself.

“Global warming, which has caused temperatures to rise worldwide between 1970 and 1998, will now likely cause a decline,” says Jet Propulsion Laboratory climatologist Bill Patzert. However, explaining this to the general public is extremely difficult. “Millions of dollars in grant money are at stake,” continues Patzert, “so it is important that data be adjusted to show the current year as the warmest on record.”

Piers Corbyn, a British astrophysicist and meteorologist, agrees that the frigid temperatures now creating havoc across the Northern Hemisphere are the result of global warming. “Global warming-induced global cooling will likely be significant,” says Corbyn. “We may even be entering a mini-ice age similar to the one that took place between 1450 and 1850. Of course, that was caused by a cyclical low in solar radiation and not global warming.”

Corbyn goes on the say that though we are entering another cyclical low in solar radiation, the current cold snap is man-made and the result of global warming. Demonstrating that scientifically is virtually impossible, however. “This is why keeping the media on board is so important. They need to keep the story out there and they need to keep it straight.”

Since the early 1990s, the columns of many leading newspapers and magazines, worldwide, have carried an increasing stream of alarmist letters and articles on global warming. “They have been our best friend,” says Thomas Cooper, a spokesman for the UN Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change, “but a number of cracks have been appearing. More media outlets are questioning the evidence and that isn’t good. Such questioning is tantamount to terrorism and the journalists and organizations behind it should be labeled as such. Until that time, however, all we can do is adjust the statistics to reflect the underlying truth of global warming.”

“Besides,” he concluded, “millions of dollars are at stake.”
